Popcuts for Causes
Popcuts for Causes is a new feature that lets you donate the rewards you make with a song to a charitable cause instead of keeping it to yourself. You still own the song, and you can still download it again whenever you want, but when this song is sold again, the cause you selected during your purchase will get the rewards in cash.
How does it work?
Simply shop for music on Popcuts, as you normally would. On the checkout screen, next to each you'll notice a dropdown field where you can select a cause to donate the proceeds from that song to. After your purchase, track the money you've raised in My Songs. It couldn't be easier!
When are causes paid out?
We try to make sure causes are paid as often as possible. Currently, this threshold is five dollars. Whenever a cause accumulates more than that, we'll send them the money.
Currently, causes are organizations hand-selected by Popcuts. We'll start out with a small set, but if you have a suggestion, please let us know.
Kiva.org
"We Let You Loan to the Working Poor"
Kiva’s mission is to connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty. Kiva is the world’s first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepreneurs around the globe. The people you see on Kiva’s site are real individuals in need of funding – not marketing material. When you browse entrepreneurs’ profiles on the site, choose someone to lend to, and then make a loan, you are helping a real person make great strides towards economic independence and improve life for themselves, their family, and their community. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6–12 months), you can receive email journal updates and track repayments. Then, when you get your loan money bac... [See profile]
DonorsChoose.org
"An online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need."
DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Here's how it works: public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org. Requests range from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class. Then, you can browse project requests and give any amount to the one that makes your eye twinkle. Once a project reaches its funding goal, we deliver the materials to the school. You'll get photos of your project taking place, a thank-you letter from the teacher, and a cost report showing how each dollar was spent. If you give over $100, you'll also receive hand-written thank-you let... [See profile]

EFF broke new ground when it was founded in 1990 — well before the Internet was on most people's radar — and continues to confront cutting-edge issues defending free speech, privacy, innovation, and consumer rights today. From the beginning, EFF has championed the public interest in every critical battle affecting digital rights. Blending the expertise of lawyers, policy analysts, activists, and technologists, EFF achieves significant victories on behalf of consumers an... [See profile]
