Bio

Julia Meinwald is a composer who has worked extensively in music for film, dance, and theatre. Collaborating with talented artists from around the East Coast, her songs have been heard at the New Georges Theatre, Dixon Place, the Laurie Beechman Theatre, the West End Theatre, the Hudson Guild Theatre, the D-Lounge, the Cornelia Street Cafe, Goodspeed Opera House, Barrington Stages, Yale Repertory and the Hangar Theatre. Working with the Tze Chun Dance Company, Julia’s music was heard as part of Dance New Amsterdam’s Raw Materials series in fall 2006, and her ballet, Three Dreams, was read by Yale University’s Saybrook Orchestra in the spring of 2005. Favorite scores include Pink and Blue with the NYC based production company The Complications, and the music for the acclaimed computer game Jessica Plunkenstein and the Dusseldorf Conspiracy. She also enjoys creating the music for the internet sitcom Inconvenient Molly. Two of Julia’s one-act musicals, What Happens Here and Soon Never, were read at NYU‘s Graduate Musical Theatre Program, where she also developed a full-length musical, Shelter, with lyricist Rob Shapiro. This spring, her one act musical, Disappeared, with lyricist Gordon Leary, was produced by the Prospect Theater Company. Julia is a member of ASCAP and the Dramatists Guild, a participant in New Dramatists 2008 Composer/Librettist studio, and the 2005 recipient of the Shen Prize in musical theatre. She received her BA in Music from Yale University in 2005, and her M.F.A from NYU Tisch’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program in 2007.
